Management is the process of achieving results while retaining your people. These are the results every manager should be measured on. Sadly, a lot of organizations only look at the former and relegate the latter to HR.
This involves planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling different activities in the organization.
The management profession has been tainted with a lot of myths and misconceptions in the last few decades. People keep distinguishing between leaders and managers, what they should be doing and what they shouldn’t. Sadly, that all started because managers are not doing their jobs. (hey, that’s how Dilbert was born).
I won’t describe nor try to define the two. Rather, I will focus on management practices and behaviors tailored to the Philippine context and how to become a better manager.
